Aplastic Anemia, BMTs and ATG? - aplastic anemia treatment more condition_symptoms
My best friend has aplastic anemia. He was diagnosed with it in spring 2008 and has since been put on medication, had treatment with ATG (although I will confess I am not 100% clear what it is) and his brother tested for potential donors of bone marrow .. . that do not match.
Recently, blood count had risen slightly, but still pretty sure that you will need a bone marrow transplant. After all, who the donor is not a parent, and how they have reacted so badly to the ATG, is convinced that his body will reject the transplant, and he will not live through it. Even though he is young (early 20) and the doctors seem to think they have the transplant and does not therefore believe that the factors in its favor.
I talk a lot about what happens to the AA, but as hard as I try, it is very difficult for me (I must admit that my heart breaks to hear and what I believe some of the details block unconsciously) and I do not really know what they should say sos hope, next to "You Be Fine", and he does not believe that that is true. He also looks at the point where I believe blindly optimistic that "will be OK, because it is a good man and he deserves to live better and begins to sink. I'm worried, not only for its attitude, but because of what happens when they proceed with the BMT.
If anyone had experience with AA, or something similar, and has all the information that could help promote me, my friend hope to keep? I know it is an exaggeration, but I would at least try.
